Paying for a parcel on collection with M-Pesa

Most Mzigo.online parcels are paid for when the receiver collects them. This guide explains when the fee is due, how M-Pesa payment works and what happens if something goes wrong.

What “pay on collection” means

At registration, Mzigo.online calculates a delivery fee for the route, size and declared value. For most senders this fee is not paid upfront — the receiver pays it when the parcel is ready for collection.

That keeps sending simple: the sender registers and drops off, and the receiver settles the delivery fee at the destination office.

Parcel insurance is separate from the delivery fee. Mzigo.online is the first Kenyan company to offer parcel insurance, so the declared value of the parcel is covered even though payment happens at collection.

When the fee is due

The fee becomes due when the parcel arrives at the destination office and is marked ready for collection in tracking.

Workspace customers may have agreed invoiced terms instead; if you are sending as a business, check the terms on your workspace before promising a receiver that they pay at the counter.

How to pay by M-Pesa

  1. Go to the destination partner office with the tracking number or collection code.
  2. The counter confirms the amount due for the parcel.
  3. Pay by M-Pesa when prompted — the office confirms the payment reference.
  4. You receive a collection code, then hand over the parcel.

Never send money to an individual claiming to be a courier. Payments are made at the partner office against a parcel's tracking number.

What the receiver needs to collect

  • The tracking number or Locker ID from the sender
  • The collection code issued after payment
  • Identification, where the partner office requests it
  • The phone number the parcel was registered with

If payment or collection fails

If the receiver cannot pay, the parcel stays at the office under the partner's holding rules. Storage or return charges may apply, and an uncollected parcel may eventually be returned to the sender.

If a payment looks wrong or the amount is disputed, contact support with the tracking number and payment reference before paying again.

For businesses

High-volume workspaces can agree invoiced billing instead of receiver-paid collection. Track invoices and payment status from Pricing or your workspace billing area.
